Ask him to install a free program called ePrompter which will enable you to eliminate unwanted e-mail while it is still at your server so that it never even gets to your computer.  It will also put an icon at the bottom of your screen that will tell you how many unread e-mails you have waiting without requiring that you open your email application.

If you phone him he will guide you through the installation of a small program that will enable him to take remote control of your computer while you are talking to each other on the phone.
 
When the work is completed, and you disconnect, he then has no further access to your computer until you once again use the program to allow him access to your computer.
 
The method I use is that I keep a file folder labeled "Bill Phillips" and whenever I run into a problem, or find that I have a question, I write it down on a 3x5 slip of paper and I put it in the file.  When I get a fair number of slips in the file I then call Bill Phillips and when he takes remote control we then quickly dispose of all the items in the folder.
